Why Organic Cotton?

Why Organic Cotton?

What is Organic Cotton?

Organic cotton is grown from seeds that do not use synthetic chemicals such as fertilisers and pesticides. The cotton is grown using methods and materials that have a low impact on the environment and can take more than 3 years for a farm to receive organic certification. It is not just the environment that benefits from its ban on the use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides; farmers’ health is better for it too.

What is GOTS? (Global Organic Textile Standard)

GOTS is a textile production certification that limits the use of toxic bleaches, dyes and other chemical additives during the production. It is internationally recognised as the strictest textile standard and goes beyond the farming process to also include every step of manufacturing.  All farms and factories that undergo inspection and certification are independently checked against a strict criteria. GOTS certification not only applies to the cotton but it incorporates key environmental and social criteria, including waste, water usage and working conditions.

Why is it better for Babies?

Babies skin is fragile and needs to be protected. Organic cotton is grown naturally and processed naturally without any harsh chemicals.  The pure fibres are gentle, safe and allow young delicate skin to breathe. As they don’t contain any chemicals their little bodies can’t absorb any of the nasties that come from other fabrics. Organic cotton is also good for babies that have eczema, allergies and sensitive skin.

These are the reasons we have chosen to stock clothing and soft toys that are made from 100% organic cotton and GOTS approved. We believe it is the best material for babies and their delicate skin.
